The sun rose quietly and unexpectedly just before the moon set it its other,
darker corner of the same sky.
Already this unsettled us and we did not enjoy our early breakfast, not even the duck eggs, much anticipated the previous evening at a cold and meatless super just offshore our current position sitting uncomfortably cross-legged and off balance on the volcano's steep and windswept north escarpment, silhouetted now by eastern light, no doubt distinct to ship borne eyes.
The land, lifeless and sharply vitrified still offered some small comfort from the sea.
